Honours Project

My honours project looked into level and game design, specifically, how I could use player feedback loops to inform level design choices.

The loop and levels were created target the conscientious player type. This player enjoys the mastery and achievement aspect of games, and the levels I created aim to comply with these aspects and the motivations within. These player types and their motivations can be seen here, as well as a map of gaming motivations here. (Yee, N. QuanticFoundry, 2016)

A total of three levels were developed, and each one aimed to improve upon the last by referring back to my player feedback loop during their creation.

​

It is my hope that developing and designing levels based on personality types will place the player in a flow state or get them "in the zone". If this could be achieved, it would mean players targeted by feedback loops tailored to them, would better enjoy the games they are playing.
